National Statistics Day 2024
Next February 27, 2024 AD. National Statistics Day is going to be celebrated for the 4th time in the country.

Realizing the importance of statistics, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics on 18 September 1974 by merging 4 organizations (Statistics Bureau under the Ministry of Planning, Agricultural Statistics Bureau under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Census Commission and Census Commission under the Ministry of Home Affairs).
On February 27, 2013 A.D., with the understanding and dedicated efforts of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to establish a world-class institutional structure and legal basis for the statistical system of the country. “Statistics Act-2013” was passed by the Great National Parliament on The National Statistical Development Strategy Paper (NSDS) was approved by the Council of Ministers on October 28, 2013 for overall development of the statistical system.
Accurate and timely statistics are essential for proper development planning.
With the development and progress of the country, the importance and use of statistics is increasing.
Statistical information is playing an important role in monitoring the country's Five Year Plan and SDG progress.
Out of total 231 indicators of SDG, the data of 111 indicators is prepared by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.
The remaining indicators are prepared by various ministries and sent to the SDG tracker, then authenticated by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics prepares, maintains and publishes official statistics as the national statistical agency.
The National Statistics Day is very important to make the introduction and use of statistics at the national level more public and reach people's doorsteps.
